Why Australia?

Our Projects are located in Cairns Hinterland under 2 hours from the world’s largest reef “The Great Barrier Reef of Australia”.

Australia’s growing population means increased consumption

  • Australia’s population continues to grow
  • Australia’s population grew by 2.1% during the year ending 31 March 2009
  • Natural increase contributed 37% to total population growth
  • Net overseas migration contributed 63% to total population growth
  • Population is projected to increase from 30.9 million to 42.5 million by 2056
  • Population is projected to increase to 62.2 million people by 2101
  • “Australia’s senate recently passed a renewable energy target bill.
This means that 20% of electricity production aims to come from reneables by 2020”

    Biodiesel in Australia

In Australia, total diesel consumption in 2009 was 19 gigalitres and we imported more than 48% of those needs. An increasing number of commercial organisations (mining companies and transport companies) are trialling B20 to B100 blends because of the significant greenhouse reduction benefits. Biodiesel blends – usually B5 or B20 – are available at an increasing number of service stations in all states.

In Australia, the main feedstocks are tallow, used cooking oil and oilseeds. The CSIRO has estimated that converting all used cooking oil, tallow exports and oilseed exports to biodiesel could potentially replace 4–8% of petrodiesel consumption.

The biodiesel industry in Australia already has the capacity to produce nine times the amount of biodiesel consumed in 2007. And this could increase even further – 10–40% – with the ‘2nd generation’ technologies that are under development.
