UNEP: Worldwide investment in 2010 in renewable energy reaches record level

Investments in renewable energy increased in 2010 to a record level of US$211bn, representing a year-on-year rise of 32%. This emerges from a study entitled “Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investments 2011″ presented at the beginning of July 2011 by the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Of total worldwide investment, US$143bn were accounted for by new financial investments in larger privately financed projects, US$60bn flowed into small projects and almost US$9bn were spent on private and public investment in research and development.
