Biomass plant proposed for Kent
If granted permission, a proposed biomass plant in Kent, UK, is due to convert thousands of tonnes of waste wood into heat and power.
A joint venture between German Evonik New Energies and renewable energy firm HES Biopower, Biomass Power’s facility will utilise a yearly supply of 160,000 tonnes of wood for the generation of 25MW of power.
35MW of low-grade steam heat will also be produced at the Ridham Docks facility.
The electricity produced will be used to supply the National Grid.
‘Together with out partner HES Biopower this development will add to our growing portfolio of renewable energy operations in the UK,’ said Juergen Kirsch, Evonik project manager.
